The A SLEEPING SAMURAI® 1973 SKATEBOARD CAP harks back to the halcyon days of the 1973 Los Angeles skateboard scene. The six-panel baseball style hat is crafted from pure cotton fabric, featuring the classic A SLEEPING SAMURAI® logo embroidery on the front, with additional signature stitching at the back and the distinctive 1973 on the side. The design brings together a yellow and purple colourway with ice blue accents, snap closure, and flat visor.

THE STORY
I'm a sneakerhead and, even more than that I love the history around the sneakers and the influence of skateboarding and hip-hop on sneakers and streetwear culture. Needless to say that this cultural mix has a big influence on the way I design, with much of the inspiration coming from visits to Los Angeles and New York. I grew up listening to the music of Tupac and Biggie. Today my playlist is heavily influenced by artists originating from LA and NY, including Biggie, Ice Cube, Kendrick Lamar, and NWA. My visits to LA and NY have been seminal moments in my journey as a fashion designer.
I wanted to create a collection that would bring together skateboarding and hip-hop from
Los Angeles and New York. And so the 1973 collection was born. A homage to the birth of skateboarding and hip-hop culture. I felt that I wanted to inject a little of the DNA from this rich skateboarding and hip-hop cultural history into every piece in the 1973 collection.
In my 1973 SKATEBOARD CAP, I wanted to capture the LA vibe. The sunshine, the colours, the skateboarding, the basketball, the music. And so, sitting in a coffee shop in LA, the design for my cap came to life.
