THE STORY
I'm a huge fan of the Fast & Furious movie franchise, and so I began to wonder what it would be like to create a headwear piece that evoked the spirit of these cool street race cars. The custom cars that can be spotted on my travels to Los Angeles and Tokyo. That was three years ago.
I wanted to wait until my next visit to Japan so that I could be absorbed into the custom car culture. IMO, nobody does custom cars like the Japanese. I waited until evening time and made my way to the outskirts of the city to get some inspiration from the custom shiny steel machines. I decided to create my new cap, which I'd already titled STREET RACER, in a slightly different way from the norm. This time I would design the paint job for my custom street race car, and then the design for my new cap would follow.
And so if I was designing my own paint job for my new race car, what would my race car be? Maybe a Nissan GT-R! Yes, it would be a Nissan GT-R and it would be in frost blue with orange accents. Not too much orange. Perhaps just on the skirts and the bonnet.
My vision complete, the sketch of the cap fell into place. The COLLEGE STREET RACER CAP is a colourful, almost playful design that's been three years in the making.
