THE STORY

As Creative Director at the A SLEEPING SAMURAI® House, my role is to set the direction of travel for the brand. The direction of travel for "LOVE TO FLY" is to inspire to reach our dreams. That not matter what our goals might be, the collection is to inspire so that, no matter from where we start or what obstacles we face, we can do anything we set our mind to achieve. To never stop believing in our dream because by keep moving forward, our dreams are still alive. I created the "LOVE TO FLY" collection to inspire a generation to make dreams come true.

Dare to dream and with hard work and focus, we can fly very high.

Sitting in a coffee house in Harajuku, there were two items of interest on my mind – "LOVE TO FLY" and hoodies. And so I began to sketch. I found inspiration in Harajuku like I can not find in any other place. Sure, many cool places give me much inspiration. But Harajuku, Japan is different. There's an energy, a uniqueness that fills my heart with creativity.

I told myself that I wanted to create something a little off-the-wall. This piece would be a special piece. Exclusive. One that would be made in very low numbers. A loose-fitting organic cotton hoodie with embroidery. I sketched the House logo onto the front. A little smaller than usual. Looked good. Looking across the street, I saw the eclectic nature of Harajuku. No two shops looked the same. No two signs looked the same. Everything seemed to be out of sync, completely lacking in uniformity, and yet it worked beautifully. Okay, I will add "LOVE TO FLY", but where to place it. It needs to look out-of-sync, almost like its been spray painted onto an available space on a wall. I tried a place on the hoodie, no good, rubbed it out. Tried another place. Same result. I tried several positions but always the same result, the words looked like they were meant to be there.

I needed to clear my mind, and so I left my sketchpad and pencils next to my cup of bubble tea, and went for a short walk down the street. A few minutes later, I returned, knowing exactly where our "LOVE TO FLY" motto should go.
